Gold as a contract, not as metal
This site links to a trading account with FxPro, an international broker. This site is not the broker and takes no money from the reader. FxPro quotes gold as a contract for difference; no metal is delivered, weighed or stored. A contract for difference is settled in the account's currency and carries no claim on any bar or piece of jewellery.

A contract on the gold price, beside a pound that has to be assayed and sold to a licensed buyer
A contract for difference with FxPro tracks the price of gold. It does not give you gold. When you buy or sell the contract, you are taking a position on the price movement, and the profit or loss is settled in your account's currency. That is a different thing from buying a pound of gold from a licensed buyer in Ghana, where the metal is weighed, assayed for fineness, and paid for at the GoldBod approved purchase price. One is a financial exposure; the other is a sale of a physical asset.
The distinction matters because the risks are different. A contract for difference can lose more than the initial outlay if the price moves against the position, and it carries no claim on any metal. A pound of gold, once sold to a licensed buyer, is gone, and the seller has cedis in hand. The contract is marked to market continuously; the physical sale is a one-time transaction at a published price. A reader who wants exposure to the gold price without handling metal may find the contract useful, but it is not a substitute for selling gold.
Why fineness and assay have no meaning in a contract that delivers nothing
A physical gold sale in Ghana depends on fineness and assay. The GoldBod approved purchase price is for gold of a stated fineness, and a buyer's slip will show the assay result and the weight actually weighed. A contract for difference with FxPro has no fineness, no assay, and no weight. It is a purely financial instrument whose value is tied to a reference price, not to any particular bar or piece of jewellery.
That means a contract for difference cannot be used to sell gold, and it cannot be used to buy gold for delivery. It is a way to speculate on the price, or to hedge a price exposure, but it does not interact with the physical market in Ghana. A reader who holds gold and wants to sell it must go to a licensed buyer and follow the assay process. A reader who wants price exposure without metal can use the contract, but should not confuse the two.
What to read in the terms before an account is opened from Ghana
Opening an account with FxPro requires identification and takes a day or two. A practice account exists and costs nothing. Before opening a live account, a reader should read the terms carefully: the spreads, the overnight financing charges, the margin requirements, and the circumstances in which a position can be closed. These are not set by this site, and they are not the same as the fees on a physical gold sale.
A reader should also check how the contract is priced: which gold benchmark it tracks, how the price is converted to the account's currency, and what happens when the market is closed or volatile. The terms will state that the contract is settled in the account's currency and carries no claim on any metal. That is the key fact: it is a financial position, not a purchase of gold. A reader who is not comfortable with that should not open an account.

FxPro is not licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Ghana or by the Bank of Ghana. An account is opened with a company regulated outside Ghana - the group is authorised by the FCA in the United Kingdom and CySEC in Cyprus - so a resident here deals with a foreign firm and the protections of a locally licensed one do not apply. Sending money abroad for trading is subject to Bank of Ghana foreign exchange rules. Nothing on this site is investment advice.
